Dear friends. Do not worry, the 37th Django Reinhardt Festival will take place from 22 to 26 June 2016.
FOLLOWING THE FLOODS, THE 37th DJANGO REINHARDT FESTIVAL IS ABOUT TO FACE THE GREATEST CHALLENGE IN ITS HISTORY SINCE ITS INCEPTION IN 1968. DJANGO WILL BE SAVED FROM THE WATERS
The small town of Samois sur Seine where the most famous jazz guitarist lies, like many municipalities, suffered dramatic flooding. The Berceau Island, the mythical place that welcomes the festival, is buried under water at two weeks from the beggining of one of the oldest french jazz festivals.
Although it enjoys a significant support of various partners, the Django Reinhardt Festival remains a largely autonomous event at 70% of its budget. This year, the exceptional lineup announced an increase of more than 40% of visitors. For obvious financial reasons, we are not in a position to cancel this event.
Adversity could have put us on the ground but we are decided to face it with the determination of the organizers, technicians, volunteers and a team with enough drive to not give up.
We worked all weekend and managed to find a new location. Le Parc du Château de Fontainebleau offers us its beatiful place, La PRAIRIE DU BOIS d’HIVER DU DOMAINE DU CHATEAU DE FONTAINEBLEAU, AVENUE DES CASCADES – 77300 Fontainebleau
We would like to thank Jean-François Hébert, President of the Château de Fontainebleau and Frédéric Valletoux, Mayor of Fontainebleau and President of the Communauté de Communes where Samois belongs. They have spontaneously proposed this solution and are strongly involved with the services of the city so this edition could be prestigious.
First technical tracking done on Thursday, June 8, and a countdown of 14 days for an insane and unprecedented challenge : reinventing a festival without any reference point : bring water, electricity, 170 tons of technical equipment, mount two scenes, a backstage, the lodges, organize the reception of the public, create a food and instrument makers area with luthiers that come from around the world, and all this meeting the security and administrative compliance.
The team has never been so motivated and determined to work hard. Such adventure has never motivated us that much and we are sure that the challenge will be met because it cannot be otherwise.
Our line-up remains the same and we need the support of the media and our public in these difficult times for the festival. During these 15 days, we want to make you live the behind the scenes of this challenge, and show you the details of the scenery and the energy that the festival is able to deploy to meet your expectations at this great party that starts on June 22.
